Lynbrook is located approximately 36 kilometres southeast of Melbourne’s Central Business District. It is positioned along the South Gippsland Highway, just northwest of Cranbourne and south of the residential suburb of Hampton Park. The suburb is bordered by Dandenong Hastings Road in the west, the South Gippsland Freeway in the north, Merinda Park railway station in the east, and the railway line in the south. Its strategic location allows for convenient travel and commuting options for residents.

Development and History

Lynbrook was developed by VicUrban (now known as Development Victoria) in 1994. The suburb has undergone significant transformation, with careful planning and attention given to creating a well-designed and sustainable community. The development includes a unique stormwater catchment system, which flows into the lake and wetlands, providing purification before releasing the water into Dandenong Creek and Port Phillip Bay. Prior to the development, the area was part of Lyndhurst.

Amenities and Facilities

Lynbrook offers a range of amenities and facilities that cater to the needs of its residents. The suburb features two primary schools, Lynbrook Primary School and St Francis De Sales Catholic School, providing quality education options for families. A central shopping centre serves as a convenient hub, housing a Coles supermarket, strip shops with various retail outlets, takeaway food options, a gym, medical centre, pharmacy, news agency, butcher, bakery, and hair and beauty services. Additional amenities include a community centre, childcare centres, veterinary services, kindergarten, and maternal child health nurse.

The Lynbrook Residents Association (LRA) plays an active role in the community, advocating for residents’ interests and organising community events. Their efforts aim to foster a sense of belonging and unity among Lynbrook residents.

Recreation and Open Spaces

Lynbrook is blessed with several recreational areas and open spaces that promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Banjo Paterson Park, a spacious reserve, offers numerous walking and cycling paths, a barbecue area, a large children’s playground, and open green spaces. The park also features a football/cricket oval, which has been home to the successful Lynbrook Lakers cricket team. For those seeking additional sports facilities, a new oval with clubroom facilities is available at Marriot Waters in nearby Lyndhurst.

Transportation

Lynbrook is well-connected in terms of transportation. The suburb benefits from its own railway station, Lynbrook Station, which opened in 2012 on the Cranbourne line. The station provides convenient access to the broader public transport network, facilitating easy commuting for residents.
